Coming December 1st . . .

Burden’s Edge (Fury of a Rising Dragon, book 1)

When a young man chooses a forbidden calling, he must prove his worth … or watch his kingdom fall.

Sixteen-year-old Augum Stone is a warlock prodigy suffocating under the weight of expectations. Students idolize him. Nobles plot to exploit him. Commoners think he’s a miracle-maker. And with invasion looming, his already war-weakened kingdom expects him to be its champion.

But Augum doesn’t want to be a pawn in someone else’s game. He’ll forge his own path: that of the Arcaner—not a warlock or a knight, but a lethal combination of both. Legend says Arcaners once had the power to summon dragons. If true, it could change everything.

Resurrecting the Arcaner path comes with consequences, however. Scandal. Malice. Treachery. And a harrowing test of character.

He must survive.
He must prove he’s worthy of an ancient path.
And he must save the kingdom . . . before it’s too late.

Are you as excited as I am? At long last, the first installment in the trio’s next grand adventure is nearly upon us. We only have a few weeks to go. The book is 145,000 words long, which is one and a half times longer than Arcane. Expect it to launch December 1st.

I can’t wait for you to read Augum, Bridget and Leera’s next saga!

The Arinthian Line series (complete): Arcane Riven Valor Clash Legend The Fury of a Rising Dragon series (complete): Burden's Edge Honor's Price Mercy's Trial Champion's Wrath I grew up on Dragonlance and probably spent way too much time playing role-playing games. Then came the video games. But then, Nintendo was life in Toronto of '86. As a matter of fact, much of my youth could be considered "wasted" exploring escapism of one form or another. Now I'm a full-time author living in British Columbia, Canada. I have a wife who taught me what it means to love someone unconditionally. Buddha, my grumpy but rumpled-with-love cat, likes to keep watch from a Lego castle near my desk. (Update: said Lego castle has long been dismantled. Now she basks under a sun lamp). I suppose my favorite sagas are Harry Potter, Ender's Game, Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and Game of Thrones. I also love true-life survival tales like Into Thin Air, Shadowdivers, and Perfect Storm. As for movies, I regularly re-watch Bladerunner, Star Wars, Highlander, Aliens, Limitless, Edge of Tomorrow, Interstellar, Lost in Translation, and Margin Call. But I've been most inspired by Harry Potter. Seriously, because if it hadn't been for HP, I'd never have dared. I simply stood on the shoulders of a giant. Thank you for writing that story, Joanne Rowling, it was extremely re-readable. I can only hope to capture my readers' imagination as you have captured mine. When I was a kid, I dreamed I could spread my arms as wings, jump off the ground, and fly. My head was in the clouds (and in many ways, still is). It would be fair to say that my love of fantasy began then, steadily refined by movies, video games, and cozy books. As for me, I enjoy talking to my readers, so if you read one of my books, you're welcome to shoot me an email at Throw me a question, comment, or just say hello. I blog at when the mood strikes me, and I'm on social media now and then. I don't publish too often, but you can subscribe to my newsletter to receive a notification when I do release new work (newsletter signup is at (I was also a musician at one time, having released three albums with my industrial-rock band Tribal Machine.) When all is said and done, I know how fortunate I am to be a full-time author. I think about it often--especially when I recall what it was like working the grind. Thus I humbly thank each and every reader for supporting my work.

  1. is it bad that I finished the book within 24 hours of buying it on Kindle? This is the same Kai as earlier, but on a different device.

      1. It’s hard to say exactly what time it will go live on Amazon. Likely sometime in the a.m. You aren’t the only one. I’ve been getting a bunch of emails asking exactly what time. People are excited.

  2. So, I was just finishing up reading Legend in preparation for Burden’s Edge and I was wondering, will we get a hint or an answer to the question that Augum asked Krakatos? I have a few ideas but I would like to know for sure.

  3. I’ve read every book in the series at least 4 times and can not wait until the release of the new book. I would love to see Leland come out and speak with the trio now about a lot of things. Now that he can talk, it really changes how I view the little tyke. I would love to know how he felt while he couldn’t talk. Again, I love this series, and as an 8th grader I love an action\drama that has so many plot lines intertwined to make an utterly perfect story. By far the best books I’ve read in the past 3 years. I live in Sacramento, so if you ever travel to California, come visit me here! Can’t wait for the new story, thank you so much four an amazing journey through the lands of Solia. I can hardly contain my excitement, and I totally agree with Oliver. Best Christmas present ever.

    1. Four times! That’s some serious dedication, Kai :)

Leland is NOT going to appear in the first book. I’m still not sure if he’ll appear at all in this series, as I’m considering writing a book just about him.

Anyway, I thought you’d want to know so you don’t get your hopes up.

      11 days to launch :)

      1. I would totally read a book just about Leland. I can not wait. Any idea on when Honor’s Price is coming out?

      2. Honor’s Price is loosely scheduled to launch mid 2018, but I’ll narrow that timeframe down as I work on the book (I’m 73,000 words into it, and projecting approximately 175,000).

  4. The Arinthian line was a rollercoaster from start to finish and this new series sounds awesome from that description alone! I also absolutely love the art work of the cover especially the rings for his degree of arcanery and from the looks of it am I right in assuming Augum has his 7th degree now?? Always great to hear news of new content coming soon.
