Then came the video games. But then, Nintendo was life in Toronto of '86. As a matter of fact, much of my youth could be considered "wasted" exploring escapism of one form or another. Now I'm a full-time author living in British Columbia, Canada. I have a wife who taught me what it means to love someone unconditionally. Buddha, my grumpy but rumpled-with-love cat, likes to keep watch from a Lego castle near my desk. (Update: said Lego castle has long been dismantled. Now she basks under a sun lamp). I suppose my favorite sagas are Harry Potter, Ender's Game, Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and Game of Thrones. I also love true-life survival tales like Into Thin Air, Shadowdivers, and Perfect Storm. As for movies, I regularly re-watch Bladerunner, Star Wars, Highlander, Aliens, Limitless, Edge of Tomorrow, Interstellar, Lost in Translation, and Margin Call. But I've been most inspired by Harry Potter. Seriously, because if it hadn't been for HP, I'd never have dared. I simply stood on the shoulders of a giant. Thank you for writing that story, Joanne Rowling, it was extremely re-readable. I can only hope to capture my readers' imagination as you have captured mine. When I was a kid, I dreamed I could spread my arms as wings, jump off the ground, and fly. My head was in the clouds (and in many ways, still is). It would be fair to say that my love of fantasy began then, steadily refined by movies, video games, and cozy books.   1. Did the arcaner code change at some point because I have to imagine that it contained something about dragons, probably about being responsible with their power.

  3. Oh my gosh! I literally just finished reading the books for the second time (I might have been hoping that the second book would be out by the time I fineshed reading it) But I alm kinda fangirling right now. This series it so, so, soooooo amazing. I love it, its like the next big Harry Potter. Yhak you for creating this

      1. For me, some favorite characters are Augum (Of course) and Leera. Bridget is cool, but in the last two books she just doesn’t seem as involved (To be honest, sorry if that hurts you) and I’ve always liked Brandon. Even though he was being a complete Jackass to everybody. Oh and Jez, she is epic, and Haylee. But through bad guys, Katrina is always a good character to have be annoying, and Robin was a wonderful character to stop the trio in their adventure in the Arinthian line, just I never really understood why he hated everybody so much, I mean Haylee is understandable, but why Augum or Bridget or Leera, even before they were larger outlaws. And scene wise, I am not 100% sure which are the best, I like when they beat the lord of the Legion (Of course) but smaller scenes are the Mock battle, which was just wonderful, and the arena when he fought Robin, just to name a few, but so many more are out there.

      2. No offense taken at all! Everyone is allowed to love/hate what they like about the work. Robin hated the trio because they were a threat to his ego. He was, essentially, a classic bully. Jez is a blast to write (but then, so is Leera, who speaks her mind so freely).

        Ah yes, those scenes are a lot of people’s favorites. Good choices :)

      4. Mainly because I want them to be accessible to everyone, and that includes parents reading them to their kids. I’ve also never felt the need to swear, as I believe a quality character does not need to.

  4. do all the dragons breathe fire or breathe the element they are? For example do lightning breathe lightning and ice have frost-breath.

  7. Is the dragon in the cover a necromancer dragon? I ask because its black.
    Will the dragons colour match the colour of the element rings?

    1. I honestly would have no idea what I’d do If your books left my life, it’s just been so good for me. Also if Sir Westwood had been so big for Augum in his younger ages, why isn’t he as big as a memory for him.

      1. This release will be more spontaneous, meaning it will suddenly appear. As to Sir Westwood, a bit of that is addressed in Mercy’s Trial :)

  10. Ok continuing on, since I didn’t want to make a text wall the size of the entire website:
    Pros:
    -Believable, relatable characters.
    -Great amounts of humour.
    -Perfect balance of romance.
    -Great fight scenes!!!!
    -Incredible magic system- it’s so intriguing yet so well defined that everything makes sense!
    -Everything!

    1. The progression of Augum as a character since the first book is amazing. Not only in the book, but also your description, which makes these books so special, you see the books and characters advance, and your writing advance too. It’s just amazing!

      1. I completely agree- it’s really fascinating to watch him, and his friends, mature. The Arcaner path is a huge step in that, especially the Final Valediction, which plays nicely into the foreshadowing at the beginning of Honour’s Price.

      2. Thank you both. Augum’s been the greatest challenge for me as a character because he’s so easy to dismiss, at least from my perspective. And because so much of him is *me*, per se, I have him react as I would, sometimes forgetting that this is about advancing the character beyond my own limited perspectives and comforts. In short, I am sometimes blinded by how close I am too him. Mercy’s Trial was fun in this regard because I think I made some key breakthroughs that will truly allow him to become his own person (though he will obviously never be fully separate from me as the author).

    I really love your work- I haven’t enjoyed a series this much since Skullduggery Pleasant! The books are the perfect balance of everything, please keep up the amazing work! I can’t wait for book 3!
    By the way, I noticed that you labelled Summon Wall as a 7th degree spell. In Honour’s Price it’s implied that it’s 8th degree, and that the second offensive is 7th.
    Gripes and things I love:
    Cons:
    -Occasional spell typo. Isn’t major, it just occasionally throws me off a little (this is really minor). Two main spots are in Legend, when it says Augum barely managed to finish Slow Time instead of Cron (slow time’s activation phrase was used), and in Honour’s price, where two warlocks cast Flustrato and Voidus Vis, and it says their spellw crashed into Augum’s mind armour.
    -In Honour’s Price, “as only x could” is used quite a bit, and it starts to feel lazy. I know that you’re making the reader use thwir imagination, but some different phrasing would help imo.
    -In Honour’s Price, there’s a couple spots with unnecessary :war-homed”‘s. It’s also really repetitive.
    Phrasing would nice here too (nuance with synonyms) imo.

And although the editing process these days is far more refined then it used to be, things still inevitably slip through. I appreciate your effort :)
