– Announcing the name of book 3
– I need your help nominating Arcane for its first-ever book contest

Firstly, I’m excited to announce that the name of the next book, coming out in December, will be Mercy’s Trial (Fury of a Rising Dragon, book 3). It’s an epic work (a book as long as Legend!). It’s currently with my wife, who is doing the developmental editing. When that gets done, it’s going to go through another couple of edit rounds before a line editor takes over. The cover reveal will come in the next few months. In the meantime, I’ll get to start writing book 4! Needless to say, I’m ultra excited.

Secondly, I’d like to ask your help with something I’ve never tried before–a book contest! Epic Fantasy Fanatics is running a massive contest on Facebook, and I’ve submitted Arcane for contention. The tricky part is that Arcane will require 100 nominations to enter the main contention round, and I’ve only got a handful so far because I haven’t publicized that I’ve entered the contest. Nominating the book is super quick and easy:†††

The Arinthian Line series (complete): Arcane Riven Valor Clash Legend The Fury of a Rising Dragon series (complete): Burden's Edge Honor's Price Mercy's Trial Champion's Wrath I grew up on Dragonlance and probably spent way too much time playing role-playing games. Then came the video games. But then, Nintendo was life in Toronto of '86. As a matter of fact, much of my youth could be considered "wasted" exploring escapism of one form or another. Now I'm a full-time author living in British Columbia, Canada. I have a wife who taught me what it means to love someone unconditionally. Buddha, my grumpy but rumpled-with-love cat, likes to keep watch from a Lego castle near my desk. (Update: said Lego castle has long been dismantled. Now she basks under a sun lamp). I suppose my favorite sagas are Harry Potter, Ender's Game, Lord of the Rings, Narnia, and Game of Thrones. I also love true-life survival tales like Into Thin Air, Shadowdivers, and Perfect Storm. As for movies, I regularly re-watch Bladerunner, Star Wars, Highlander, Aliens, Limitless, Edge of Tomorrow, Interstellar, Lost in Translation, and Margin Call. But I've been most inspired by Harry Potter. Seriously, because if it hadn't been for HP, I'd never have dared. I simply stood on the shoulders of a giant. Thank you for writing that story, Joanne Rowling, it was extremely re-readable. I can only hope to capture my readers' imagination as you have captured mine. When I was a kid, I dreamed I could spread my arms as wings, jump off the ground, and fly. My head was in the clouds (and in many ways, still is). It would be fair to say that my love of fantasy began then, steadily refined by movies, video games, and cozy books.   2. Hi! I don’t have Facebook so sorry, but I would immidietlu, so I’m that one guy who is just like “I’m writing. A book too” yayaa. But it was stolen, and I only had one chapter online (10 chapters I wrote down) and it was all stolen (and my backpack) so now I’m back to square one. I need your help, what can I do to continue writing again, I just want tips to get back into it. Please help, (it was worth thousands of dollars to me) so please what can I do thanks…

    2. Sorry to hear that you lost your work, Sasa! How awful! It happened to me too, believe it or not–back in my teenage years, I lost half of an entire book to a computer crash. I learned my lesson well: always have backups!

      Years later, I finished new books–better books–and am much happier. So don’t fret, you’ll get around to it when you’re ready again.

      In the meantime, I personally get inspired to write again by reading craft books (meaning books on how to become a better writer). Here’s a trio I aalways recommend to aspiring authors:

      Wired for Story by Lisa Cron
      Self-editing for Fiction Writers by Renni Browne and Dave King
      A Writer’s Guide to Fiction by Elizabeth Lyon

      Also any of the craft books by Chris Fox.

      I’ve read a ton of craft books and I’ve found these to be the best, in my opinion.

      1. Thank you so much for the feedback, I’ve already started again (The day it was stolen in fact) And I am thriving, and as much as annoying as was, I learned it was a learning experience for me, and also a time for me to go back and do all the clean up I had needed to do.
        I am thriving in my writing right now, once again thank you so much, and you are my favorite author.
